DHA to have second police station

LAHORE: The police have decided to have two police stations in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Cantonment division superintendent of police (SP) Ahmad Kamal told Daily Times on Sunday.

Kamal said the old police station would be named Defence Police Station (A) and the new one Defence Police Station (B). He said the new police station would be set up in Phase-V. He said the population of DHA was increasing because of which crime was also on the increase. He said the two police stations would help the Police Department deal better with crime. He said the Defence police station registered about 2,000 cases every year.

He said the new police station's jurisdiction would include Phase-I, II and V. He said about 60 percent of crime was reported from the area under Defence police station (A). He said the police station currently had 78 constables, nine head constables, five sub-inspectors, five assistant sub-inspectors and one inspector of the Operations Wing. He said that it was difficult to deal with the entire DHA with this number of police personnel. He said that more cops and vehicles would be given to the new police station. However, he said the number of Mujahid Squad would remain same.

Major (r) Shabbir, the person in charge of DHA security, said the housing authority had asked for a new police station in the area, which the Police Department had approved. He said the new police station would help control crime and maintain law and order.
