Many areas suffer more power cuts
KARACHI: Many residential localities of the metropolis continued to suffer unannounced and recurring power breakdowns for another day on Tuesday as the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) failed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to major city areas.
Residents, shopkeepers, and traders, while acknowledging the efforts of the utility on systems improvement, opined all the same that such work should be carried in a regulated manner for the convenience of the power consumers.
They said that power outages had been commonly and excessively occurring in their localities irrespective of the timings and schedule of planned power shutdowns mentioned in the KESC publicised shutdown notices.
Unexpected and recurring power breakdowns, coupled with massive voltage fluctuation, were observed, especially in the daytime in the vicinity of Malir, Gulishan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Nazimabad, Korangi, Orangi, Gadap, Baldia Towns and many localities falling in the jurisdiction of the now-defunct districts of East, West, and Central.
A resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block-7, said that power failure in the early morning hours had become a routine in his locality affecting morning preparation of the people of salaried class and school-goers.
Even the relatively well-privileged and better facilitated localities of the city, including certain phases of the Defence Housing Authority, Clifton, PECHS, vicinities along the Sharea Faisal, Tariq Road, and Bahadrabad, have been acutely and regularly affected by the intermittent power failures especially in the daytime. A large number of business, corporate, trading, shopping establishments and medical care institutions are situated in these localities whose functioning and business have become adversely effected due to recurring power failures and massive voltage fluctuation. The owners of the shopping, business, and trading centres have been left with no other option but to arrange for stand-by power generators in order to ensure uninterrupted supply of power in the event of electricity power breakdown.
